2026 Leapmotor B10 Design review

Unlike most of its small electric SUV rivals, the 2026 Leapmotor B10 is equipped with rear-wheel drive, 50/50 weight distribution, and chassis tuning by Maserati engineers, and it looks like a mini-Porsche Macan from the rear – but costs almost $100,000 less.

LAPmotor, a model of the rapid growth of China’s car industry, was founded as an independent Chinese automaker just 10 years ago in 2015 and launched its first model in 2019, with over 500,000 vehicles exported to markets including Australia.

But the second Leapmotor model to arrive here is far more convincing than the larger C10, which debuted the fledgling brand here in late 2024 but has struggled for recognition amid a sea of mid-size electric SUV competitors led by the Tesla Model Y, in Australia’s largest new-car market segment.

Like the C10 – and most other Chinese cars – the B10’s headline act is its bargain-basement price. When it was announced in September, the starting sticker of just $38,990 drive-away made it Australia’s most affordable small electric SUV, undercutting the MG S5 EV (priced from $40,490 drive-away and for now the only other rear-drive model in this class).

Further sweetening the deal, Leapmotor Australia also offered three years of scheduled servicing for just $200 to those who registered their interest before October 31, 2025 and purchased a B10 by the end of January 2026, when sold vehicles also received an over-the-air software update bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity – technology still missing from the C10.

But ahead of first deliveries from November and its official launch this month, the Chery E5 has matched the B10’s starting price and the much smaller BYD Atto 2 has arrived with pricing from just $31,990 before on-road costs, claiming the title of the nation’s most affordable electric SUV.

Other non-premium players in the segment are far more expensive, including the Kia EV3 (from $47,600 plus ORCs), Hyundai Kona Electric (from $54,000), Renault Megane E-Tech (from $54,990), and Mini Countryman E (from $64,990).

A leap motor b10 is very well equipped, but Is it really any decent to drive and operate? We were at the national press launch (including an extensive drive through Brisbane and typical Aussie rural roads west of the Gold Coast over two days) to know about this news.

How much does the Leapmotor B10 cost?

A two model grades of the B10 are Style and Design LR (Long Range)– and apart from other equipment, the flagship variant upgrades to a larger-capacity 67. For an additional $3000, it can be up to 516km (NEDC) battery with 1kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.

It’s a step up from the 56-year-old that’. The base Style battery is 2kWh LFP, which still offers a 442km NEDC range for the same price as many small SUVs powered by combustion.

What is the Leapmotor B10 like on the inside?

For entering B10, you have to tap the key card (there’s no real key) on a sensor in driver’ side mirror; without downloading the Leapmotor app from your smartphone which will then be able to use as ‘a proximity key.

But then you have to deal with the silly flush-fit door handle, which looks great but unlike others that pop out, requires you push and pull with same hand (which is fiddly annoying over time).

Upon entering, but you’re met by a rather large cabin backing Leapmotor’s claim that at 4 is the case. It is one of the largest small SUVs in its class, with a large head, shoulder and general stretching room; 5 metres (230mm shorter than the C10 which is just 10mm wider and also big for its classes) B10 offers plenty of head/shoulder space.

The Design variants we were restricted to driving score lovely ‘TechnoLeather’ synthetic upholstery, which looks great in either Light Grey or Shadow Grey – even if the seats will be dirty easily.’ While the entry-level Style gets grey fabric seat trim, the design variant is still very good and feels fine as it appears on the runway of this season’s introduction (along with its luxurious leather)

This is a much larger and more expensive car, which has impressive interior material and build quality (with soft-touch surfaces everywhere except on top of the dash itself), and none of those smelly odours found in some new Chinese cars.

But the generous proportioned and six-way power adjustable driver’s seat has just enough range to get comfortable, although it doesn’t telescope much of the steering wheel and does not go down quite far enough for my liking.

Like many Chinese models (and Teslas), the B10’s dashboard is spartan and screen-heavy. It’s a big, floating central 14 that is the main focus of it’. Control centre 6-inch multimedia touchscreen is the control centre for nearly everything from air-conditioning to music and vehicle settings.

But the screen is well presented, very high-resolution (2500K HD) and super-responsive; key functions can be programmed to the two scroll wheels on the steering wheel (and they’re always easy to access via a row of permanent icons at the bottom of the display).

The doors (as well as the screen) are thankfully equipped with physical window switches, but it is not possible to change the mirrors by tapping thescreen and then scrolling the thumb wheels on the tiller.

A large fonts and icons on both screens were larger, such as the digital speedo readout (a bit small but located to the left) so that it’s often hidden behind the steering wheel and your hand when turning off.’ The 8-inch column-mounted digital instrument cluster is also clear enough for quick refresh; this would be a nice thing for us older folk who wants their own attention.

But a pair of wireless phone chargers proudly placed ahead of the centre armrest is actually only 15W charger on the right and sensor for key card on left, which seems weird.

But there are plenty of storage options for . In fact, they have 22 of them – including a nice big bin under the soft-padded centre armrest — and ‘an extremely useless open tray that sits above. decent glovebox which can swallow p 14-inch laptop’ (in real life).

All four doors also have bottle holders, and a pair of nifty fold-down cupholders in the open centre console up front are bottles.

Big back seat The rear seats give you a lot of legroom – up to the top of many mid-size SUVs and headroom. This is even if the full-size (1. A. fixed 8 square-metre) panoramic glass sunroof, whichthankfully has an electric blind that’s easily controlled by a permanent button on the touchscreen with – and is also equipped with ‘an electrical eyelid’.

A quarter of the room back there is enough for three adults in reasonable comfort, given that it’s almost-flat centre position, and rear passengers score dedicated air vents (and both USB -C and USB-A outlets such as those up front), 60W USB port and 12V socket.

The seats are 60/40-split and fold, extending to 1457 litres the capacity of the big square 430L boot but not slide at the rear bench?

A 1100mm long and 1200mm wide boot is unfortunately equipped with just a Tyre repair kit under the surface of . No spare wheel here, not even a space-saver, like almost all EV’?

The B10’s air-conditioning system was very well suited for baking Queensland heat, and the multi-colour ambient lighting system – which wraps around the outboard air vents on the dash adds real wow to what is a classy cabin with far more ambience than you would think in if you were going to pay this price.

What’s under the bonnet?

The batteries of their B10 may be different but they both variants are powered by the same rear-mounted electric motor driving the rear wheels, generating 160kW (160kW) power and 240Nm(440nm), which is not sound like much; however, for an EV such size, weights in kerb should be reasonably low.

In the B10, it is a 12kW AC charging and DC fast-charging at up to 168kW (for the Design variant), so that there can be 30 to 80 per cent charge in about 20 minutes. It is also available as high as 140kW, and can be used as a Style variant.

How does the Leapmotor B10 drive?

As Alborz found when he drove the B10 at its European launch in October, the answer is very well.

Any car would be a good ride on smooth European roads, but what I didn’t expect was the B10 to be so comfortable on rough city and suburban Brisbane surfaces as well as the country roads that are so common in rural Australia.

The B10 remained calm, composed and supple in all conditions; it was even more than the most extreme of bumps, potholes and roadworks (and supported by high levels of refinement and whisper-quiet wind and noise) – except for a bit of tyre roar on coarse-chip surfaces.

But even surprisingly, the quality ride is free to dynamics at no cost. Honestly, the B10 is so good and it gives me such solid body control that I was constantly shocked at how flat it fell out in bends – even over the bumpy, tight hairpins around Mount Tamborine.

There’s a serious lack of feedback from the steering, which feels overly light even in the firmest of its three settings (Sport), but the B10 points accurately and faithfully, making this small electric SUV somewhat fun to drive – not unlike the smaller and pricier Jeep Avenger.

The B10’s relatively rare rear-drive configuration, its 50/50 weight balance, wider rear tyres (225/235 front/rear Linglong Sport Master on both variants), its multi-link independent rear suspension or even its LEAP 3 is not the only reason for this. A half-a generation newer than the C10’s, 5 platform – which is one of the first platforms to be launched in five years.

Powered by chassis tuning, it’s the codename for ‘Stellantis Chassis Master Team’ (the name given to a group of Maserati engineers who are asked to weave their ride/handling magic on dozens of models from the French–Italian-American automaker), which owns 51 per cent of the Chinese brand’. Leapmotor International’ is its export arm.

Although it isn’t a startling, straight-line performance does match with the B10’s well-sorted chassis which offers instant electric torque off the line before petering out – in some higher speeds. The top speed is 170km/h, and there are three different brakes regeneration levels (plus a handy one-pedal driving mode) at the time.

No standard can say that an eight-second 0-100km/h time isn’t fast, but this electric SUV feels faster than that, especially around town, and should be plenty for anyone shopping in this segment.

What’s less excusable is the B10’s super-intrusive advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

In full-auto mode (two taps of the right-hand stalk), it is actually very good, when adaptive cruise and lane centring functions keep the car in the middle of its Lane – even around tighter bends on poorly marked country roads and sync with freeway traffic. This makes it easy for confident hands free driving (unsurprisingly long) and aforementioned phrases.

And in every case at all other times the over-active lane-keeping assistant makes the B10 a chore to drive, because it always pushes and pulls the steering wheel when you approach. white line; and accompanying this with beeping of impending safety.

The system can be deactivated easily on the touchscreen, but it’s a big deal of pain to do that every time you turn off and when you just get close to lane markings on inside turns, the Lane-assist system actually unwinds steering lock.

Sadly, there are plenty of other unnecessary safety bings and bongs too (for example when you go over the speed limit by as little as 1km/h) but thankfully this can be limited to a visual warning. And the driver attention monitor isn’t as distracting as it is in the C10, too.

Overall, the B10’s annoyant (ADAS) suite is actually a reflection of what would be an otherwise lovely electric SUV to drive.

Assuming early-bird buyers have been able to buy an updated version of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on December 30, 2025, it added the latest features in addition to its newer software update “ADAS refinements such as adaptive curve control, expanded voice control for the ‘Hey Leapmotor’ hands-free system; custom shortcuts that allow you to create personalised presets which combine ADASS settings, acceleration preferences and regenerative braking levels”.

Is the Leapmotor B10 safe?

The B10 rated up to five-star Euro NCAP in November 2025, with no less than 17 ADAS systems, and was given the same rating in February 2026 by ANCAP, which praises its strong performance.

How much does the Leapmotor B10 cost to run?

Six-year, 150,000km warranty is provided for the Leapmotor B10; eight-month, 60,000km Warranty covers its high-voltage battery pack and an eight year, one60,000kilometre warranty.

The B10 is supported by generous eight-year roadside assistance and capped-price service programs, with logbook servicing required every 12 months or 20,000km (whichever comes first), and the term “logbook” requires Logbook maintenance.

A total of $2954 over eight years is $296, $428, $336,$415, $3045 – $441. Although we have never recorded energy consumption, the B10 has both Mode 2 and mode 3 charging cables as standard.

According to Leapmotor, the B10 is “the most European of the Chinese EVs” and certainly rides and handles better than most of its competitors.”

But it also delivers top-notch refinement and quality, and it’s larger and better packaged inside than most rivals too.

But it is standard for about $40,000, and has loads of cool features for the connected generation car-to ‘load charging (including vehicle-on-load) vehicles; a dashcam, Camp Mode, Guard Mode or remote app functionality for EV functions; not to mention eight funky exterior paint colours.

Nevertheless, for an EV that’s so tech-focused, its advanced safety systems could certainly do with some fine-tuning – especially the infuriating lane-keeping function which really detracts from what is otherwise great, and good value, not-so-small electric SUV.
