2026 Audi RS6 Avant GT review

childcareman.xyz brings reviews, research tools and trusted buying support together, guiding you from research to delivery with confidence.

There’s nothing cooler than a fast wagon, and the Audi RS6 Avant GT might just be the coolest of them all.

And that’s a rare exception to it, as there are over 660 units of this hotted-up estate car being produced worldwide and only 22 have been sent to Australia.

Are they all accounted for, even though it’s $399,000 to buy on-road costs and eye-watering when you think that is the price of . This’s about 150,000 more than that of the ’standard’ performance in an RS6, which says is nearly $150,000.

How do you pay for that extra money? Not as much as you might think, given how wild the RS6 GT looks from outside.

But if you’re looking at the exterior and it is an aggressive makeover inspired by the RS6 GTO concept, 90 quattro IMSA GRO race car (and 2003 Avus idea), then that 4 will still be in your view. Under the bonnet, 0-litre twin-turbo V8 produced an unchanged 463kW and 850Nm (against) of its own power. Like previously, all four wheels are able to receive power from an eight-speed automatic transmission.

There are no mechanical differences, though – the quattro sport differential has been improved for more of a rear bias when driving in Dynamic mode and buyers can choose stiffer, GT-specific manually adjustable coilover suspension.

The RS6 Avant GT also has more Alcantara than you can poke a stick at inside, plus sexy carbon-backed bucket seats and racy red accents.

I’m thinking you could buy a base RS6 and – Porsche 718 Boxster or Cayman for the same money, don’t be wrong. Don’Tell me this is sex package? For the daily grind, one for weekend fun, and one to aphraser.

That’s a little too pragmatic, but maybe that’ll be. But after all, it’s mighty hard to value exclusivity. That doesn’t stop me from trying in this review of RS6 Avant GT number 248.

How much does the Audi RS6 cost?

As previously mentioned, the RS6 Avant GT costs a cool $146,400 more than the standard ‘performance’ version it’s based on.

| Model | Price before on-road costs |
| — | — |
| 2026 Audi RS6 Avant performance | $252,600 |
| 2026 Audi RS6 Avant GT | $399,000 |

Alternatives to the RS6 Avant GT are thin on the ground, but the standard model competes against the BMW M5 Touring, priced from $263,900 before on-road costs.

One could argue that the BMW M3 CS Touring is actually more similar in concept, despite being a size class smaller than the RS6 Avant GT. It’s priced from $253,900 plus on-roads.

If you can afford a GT, you can probably also stretch to Porsche’s electric flagship – the Taycan Turbo GT – or its V8 stablemate, the Panamera Turbo e-Hybrid.

What is the Audi RS6 like on the inside?

Recent Audi interiors have been hit and miss, but the RS6 GT benefits greatly from its older underpinnings.

Although the standard model remains logically similar to its original style and premium feel, key touch points and peripheral materials have all been upgraded so that the GT has become more interesting at heart of purpose.

If you close the door of the driver’s door, it is the fitment of figure-hugging bucket seats from the Volkswagen Group parts bin.

And they do absolutely look the part, trimmed in leather and Alcantara with red honeycomb stitching and a glossy carbon backing.

But, the reality of such seats quickly emerges as a practical reality for . Tall side supports you to push yourself down in a very good way, and comfort once sitting isn’t an option. The front pews fit me like a glove at six-one and about 90kg, but are too snug for those with broader torso. Test fit is necessary as such, and a test fit must be done.

Pass that test, and it just gets easier.’ Pass That Exam With manual controls, you can slide (recline) or adjust height of the front seats; while the steering column keeps electric adjustment. Its vertical adjustment is particularly impressive, allowing for a low sporty seating position rarely afforded by vehicles of this genre.

However, while the GT is focused on its focus, Audi doesn’t rob buyers of basic amenities such as seat heating. But a little more padding would be nice, as I had swollen after ‘hours behind the wheel’ and got.

Aside from nice touches, the steering wheel also tries to balance performance and luxury. This rim is also wrapped in grippy Alcantara with red and grey contrast stitching, which sits more easily in the hands than those of BMW M models because it has a thinner design. The fancy leather centre pad bolsters its appearance as it is worn down by a stylishly designed .

Two tactile metal shift paddles are attached to the back of the steering wheel for maximum gearbox engagement, although they do not give the most ‘click’ when used in conjunction with an application.

Outside the main control surfaces, there’s also a lot of satisfaction in surrounding finishes. High-grade Alcantara trims ** Dash, headlining and door cards (and centre console) are trimmed; where Alkantaran isn’t used, exposed carbon weave takes over on the dash and upper door card in particular. The colour of red seatbelts is added by a splash of colour on the .

As a result, the GT feels expensive and truly special – certainly more so than the regular RS6.

That’s not to say it’t a fault of that, but for . My favorite gloss black plastic is still too much for me, where Audi has chosen to indicate each GT’s individual model numbering – a bemusing move given how bad this material wears over time. would have made a much more sense to present this information on ‘hard, upmarket metal plaque’.

Still, I consider that a small blemish on what is a product of the utmost quality.

And, thankfully, the screens in the RS6 GT don’t detract from the beauty and tactility of the interior.

It is the RS6 that has been in use since 2019, and can be seen in how restrained the GT’s technology suite is being used. The three screens are designed to complement the space, rather than dominate it; I’ve found this in some newer luxury cars as is the case with all of these.

Compared to this, just compare the new S5 and you’ll see what I mean by that? In the former, a slab of protruding screens steal attention; here is comparatively small infotainment system that sits perfectly flush with the shapely dash.

Likewise, the climate and instrument displays are neatly integrated into the overall design of the cabin.

Using a functional point of view, the touchscreens offer tactile feedback that bridges the gap between traditional physical controls and their digital successors. Furthermore, there are still proper physical shortcuts for media and ADAS settings. All of the buttons feel important, too, as do all the s.

A breeze, however, is it to navigate the central infotainment touchscreen; this has the simple app grid layout of modern smartphones. The other 2026 releases will not have some of the connectivity, but you’ll get everything from wireless Apple CarPlay to Android Auto.

Its visual quality is reflected in smartphone mirroring, which means the colours are vibrant and processing speeds are high.

Similarly, it can be said of the digital instrument cluster and head-up display (the former is highly configurable with different options depending on the drive mode selected).

The lower climate control display is slick, but I’d rather use old-school buttons. The RS6 is easier to live with, regardless of the fact that it has a dedicated climate screen separate from the infotainment system as opposed to cars which combine the two.

A lack of cabin storage up front, though, a bit further from that liveability to some extent detracts from the fact that there is no cabin. More like door slits, the door bin is more spacious and space is premium in the centre console and glovebox. Despite the smaller size, even centre cupholders are fit for a 600ml drink bottle.

While this would usually be an indicator for evaluating performance car, fast wagons are unusual in that they also offer unparalleled practicality. That’s the right call from Audi, with that in mind, not stripping the GT of rear seats or boot capacity.

Instead, the GT still has the ability to carry four adults in comfort and plenty of luggage. While it’ll technically seat five, legroom in the middle of its legs is greatly impeded by the transmission tunnel.

The rear bench is cut in the same premium materials as up front, and it feels very soft under your bum. if you use the heating function (outboard seats only) to make it warmer, so warm too.

In fact, rear facilities are plentiful – you get dual-zone climate control, four air vents, manual window blinds and USB-C outlets and a centre armrest with pop-out cupholders.

A two separate sections of glass roof overhead you’ll have a welcome to natural light into what is otherwise quite spooky cabin.

A further trip will see the boot suck up to 546 litres of cargo – more than any rival, as it does for . There is no load lip and the RS6 GT sits lower to the ground than most family haulers, so it’s easy to lift heavy items in or out.

Other practical touches inside the boot include side storage nets, further netting on the floor of the shoe and adjustable runners down each side to keep cargo secure.

It also has a 12V power socket and convenient handles to drop the second-row seats, . If so, the RS6 GT becomes a Bunnings missile.

Audi doesn’t give a spare, so just don’T pop. Most modern European cars, like most of the time-olds have a puncture repair kit, instead the RS6 GT comes with.

It’s low, stiff and blisteringly fast – great for a weekend toy but not necessarily best for an everyday driver.

Shortly after we got the car up in Melbourne’s south-east, this was apparent The GT could not help but bumbled over anything other than smooth tarmac.

This is a GT with coilover suspension, unlike the cosseting, air-sprung RS6 performance you see. You probably imagine that no air bags equal to less cushioning = less comfort. A coilover requires manual adjustment at the dealership, so you lose that spontaneous adjustability provided by air suspension — except if you’re mechanically inclined.

But as set up by Audi, our test car sat so low I felt that I had to be very careful about speed bumps and steep driveways in order not to get nasty scrapes – another complaint for the supercar owner support group was wet.

With all that said, there’s a big response to all this pain and inconvenience – better handling. Later, read more on that .

And even if you can’t justify the hassle, Audi can provide Dynamic Ride Control or RS adaptive air suspension for the RF sport suspension plus at no cost.

But the size of the RS6 GT is not getting around that . Like most modern supercar, the GT is wide on the road and that’s especially apparent in tighter urban environments like a classic example of this. It’s easier to see out of than your average Lamborghini, ok, yes, .

Like a Lamborghini, the GT doesn’t make slap-up racket like he makes. Rather, the twin-turbo V8 explodes to life in a whispered manner and isn’t particularly shouty around town.

Yet, even though it is a volumeless car (RS6 GT) the engine still turns heads wherever it goes. But for some, that will appeal to those who like flying under the radar but also a disadvantage.

That’s not the wagon for you if subtlety, comfort are your top priorities. I don’t think that’s for the drivers, this is a .

To figure out is an open road, preferably with some long straights–all it takes to be like that of the norm RS6 which already offered supercar performance and the GT doesn’t waver from that (just 3). A second to crack 100km/h from launch is 3 seconds. It is 305km/h, its highest point at 303km/3.

There are some people who may bemoan the lack of a power bump, but you’d only realistically notice any difference on if there is slack on an Australian road system that has strict road rules.

So, I’m glad to skip a few more kilowatts with the knowledge that you don’t have to be – professional racer — to drive the GT fast because when it is launched from. standstill and doesn’T get traction.” Instead, the 285mm-wide Continental tyres hold on to their grip immediately and enable instant acceleration.

The same effect is seen in rolling pulls, which are aided by an intuitive eight-speed automatic transmission that’s always on the ball and changes both up and down quickly enough time. Keen drivers can also take full control of the gearbox by using a set of high-end metal shift paddles behind the steering wheel.

The V8 thunder and twin turbos are accompanied by any flex of your right foot, followed by tasteful exhaust pops when you turn off the throttle. It has been said ‘I hope that when not in its ‘Dynamic’ or customisable drive modes, I wish the RS6 GT made more noise.

Exhaust volume aside, adjustments can also be made to throttle sensitivity, steering, and differential settings through the infotainment system.

As you inevitably approach a corner, the RS6 GT reveals a broader set of talents, proving its no one-trick pony.

One of these stops as it goes – no surprise, considering how big are the carbon ceramic brakes at this point. This is a relatively sensitive brake pedal, so it doesn’t take much input to get the GT back to halt.

No hard work is required to turn the GT, either because it’s a . This is a relatively light steering, which doesn’t convey much texture from the road surface; however, it can be accurate with your inputs.

Any slight steering wheel movement is immediately responded by the front end of the car – mind-blowing considering the weight of V8 under bonnet.

It’s true that the RS6 GT is at 2075kg and tips scales, but you would have no idea what it was from the driver’d-be like to change direction. It was a beast that is so big I just didn’t expect such agility from this .

I’m not surprised, as the RS6 is one of the classier cars in its class – an M5 Touring weighs 2475kg and Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid just slightly lean at 2360kg.

The RS6 GT is also able to disguise its large mid-corner, even though it has not yet been first turned in by the company. It keeps body roll at a low and there’s always plenty of mechanical grip on the floor.

That’s not to say you can’t feel the rear bias of the re-designed all-wheel drive system, as the GT loves to spin at the back (albeit in an easily controlled way). Any sense of imbalance is purely temporary, and the quattro sport differential helps you slingshot the car out of corners.

Nevertheless, the coilover suspension system is an excellent body control that allows for its own good quality and only can’t match other wagons. The GT is always alive and on its toes, but never goes down when the road gets bumpy – thanks Kudos to the tuning team for his shorter range of suspension travel.

And that the GT rides on huge 22-inch wheels makes all the more impressive that it is a high level of comfort during enthusiastic driving.

The standard performance is more cushy in the city, and whereas it doesn’t make much of an difference between how the two variants behave on the highway.

Despite the fact that many cabin insulation, which eliminates any noise from the V8 engine and tyres, is still in effect on the GT’S quietest cruiser. Audi’s semi-autonomous driving technology works well, too, and the safety systems don’t bing or bong unnecessarily.

childcareman.xyz’s Take on the Audi RS6 Avant GT

I’m not really sure why the RS6 Avant GT exists, but boy am I glad it does.

Despite such a homogenised market, uniqueness is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from and the GT is about as bonkers as new vehicles come, let alone sensible passenger cars. That deserves to be celebrated as a parody of that.

But as the niche is a large segment, it’s much more limited for the GT than that of the base car. This will not be a funky sticker for everyone, and functional changes to the suspension and seating compromise daily drivability.

In a way, the GT suits collectors and hardcore enthusiasts are more likely to be in the market for fast fun family transport.

In the latter category, prospective buyers should still be going to their local Audi dealership; a well-specced RS6 performance captures 90 per cent of the GT’s allure at hefty discount. That’s a car you can actually drive guilt-, stress- and discomfort-free car like it is for .

The RS6 is just about the best all-rounder you can buy at any price point, other than that it’s mostly from the BMW M5, Porsche Taycan and Porsche Panamera.

If you just have to get the GT, it’s still worth cosying up with that dealer as a local Audi spokeswoman confirmed that quite dozens of people are still unrequited overseas. Just ask nice enough, and they may just get one shipped over for you.

If not, keep your eyes on the used market and have cash at the ready… lots of it.
