2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS: ‘S-Class of SUVs’ gets major facelift

The Mercedes-Benz GLS, like the related GLE , has been substantially refreshed inside and out and will reach Australia sometime in 2027.

A mild facelift arrived in 2024, with the GLS entering production in its current generation back in 2019, announcing it was the German luxury brand’s largest SUV.

This time around, the GLS has received significantly different front- and rear-end styling, plus an overhauled interior.

The brand’s new, larger grille with bigger headlight clusters – the latest Digital Light LED technology – is appearing to blend into it and its surround featuring illumination like brands such as BMW have been doing too much.

It’s also the rage that is now turning out to be illuminated logos, and the GLS has a stand-up bonnet ornament which lights up depending on the market.

If you forgot Mercedes-Benz’s logo is a three-pointed star, the brand has been giving this shape everywhere. You’ll find it in the grille pattern, LED daytime running lights and inside the tail-lights.

A new front bumper, new 21- and 22-inch alloy wheel designs as well as two new exterior finishes Dark Petrol flat and Manufaktur Patagonia Red metallic; other visual changes include a new rear bumper (pictured) and an additional 2nd hand painter.

Down back, there’s a chunky full-width assembly incorporating the starry-eyed tail-lights and the badge.

But it’s perhaps more unusual than the interior is now arguably better, with the MBUX Superscreen standard. These include a digital instrument cluster, infotanment touchscreen and passenger display under one piece of glass; each screen has 12 screens. Paraphrasing 3 inches in length.

A passenger display will be shown only when a vehicle detects if someone has been in the car, otherwise it’ll just show – you guess it – he is based on.

More screens are available, with a rear-seat entertainment option bringing two 11.6-inch HD displays.

A Mercedes-Benz trademark, the air vents at either end of the dashboard are also round (along with a newer model) while the steering wheel has galvanised metal rollers and rocker switches. A central console (though still retained its prominent grab handles) is the centre console’s catch-all handle, but it retains its.

Among other interior changes are new seat ‘graphics’ and stitching plus a new vibrating massage for the front and second-row seats; rebeech brown colourway; dark brown open-pore wood and brown opened-price walnut.

Changes have been made under the skin, too.

The twin-turbo 4 . GLS580, powered by 0-litre petrol V8-powered engines, is updated to flat-plane crankshaft (aimed at helping the bent eight meet future emissions standards) power and torque increased from 380kW and 730Nm to 395kW with 750NM.

A turbo 3. The torque of 0-litre inline-six powered GLS450 is slightly higher than it was for the previous 500Nm (upgraded to 560NM) due to changes like an altered intake camshaft and cylinder-head.

The turbo 3 remains a part of the range, as is the case with . GLS350d and GL450d were powered by 0-litre inline six-powered GLM350D and the GLC450 D. Mercedes-Benz has yet to describe a hot AMG version of the new GLS.

The engine is off with the engine and all GLS engines have a 48V mild-hybrid system (with an integrated starter generator) designed to reduce fuel consumption by allowing the vehicle to recover energy and coast with its engine off.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz has added insulation to reduce noise, vibration and harshness such as a special heavy mat fitted to the engine cover and woven material for transmission tunnel and engine bulkhead.

The air suspension of the Airmatic has been retuned for a firmer, sportier feel but more comfortable comfort and the 48V E-Active Body Control active suspension system is still available. The spring and damper forces on each wheel are individually controlled by this, which may also be used to control the force of s.

The suite of active safety and driver assist technology has been improved, including the MB Drive Parking Assist system that allows for parking on the car diagonally (and in spaces not marked by white lines), among other changes. New and improved views are also available in the surround-view camera system, which has new and better views as well.

Various levels of semi-autonomous driving are available from MB Drive Standard to GB Drive Assist, KB Drive assassin Plus and BM Drive Afrain Pro – the latter were first introduced in China but followed by the US for an ‘easy/safe point-to-point’ driver experience that allows “a seamless, safe, point drive experience” even in dense city traffic”.

The US-built GLS isn’t Mercedes-Benz’s most expensive SUV – that’s the G-Class off-roader – but it is the largest, measuring 5207mm long on a 3135mm wheelbase, the latter making it 60mm longer than the GLE.

Also, it has three rows of seats (all seat power-adjustable) and is also a . And even the third-row seats can fit people up to 1,” Mercedes–Benz says, adding ‘It is true that there are no more than three rows of seats for those who have been in paraphrasing. 94m high.

It was the GL-named successor of the GLS (which Mercedes–Benz calls its predecessor, “S-Class of SUVs”, before the three-pointed star brand introduced the nameplate for the Global Life Support System (GLS) to match it with its flagship sedan.
