In the role he has played since 2018, Peter Ciao, who is in the top position since 2018 as an adviser, will “sure that local staff, dealers, partners and customers” are transitional.
Qing Zhang, who has been in Australia for a decade since then, said parent company SAIC Motor will oversee the automaker’s operations in both Australia and New Zealand including head of the MG brand.

Outgoing MG Motor Australia CEO Peter Ciao
The executive will do double duty, continuing to serve in his role as vice president at SAIC Motor International.
Also, SAIC Motor has appointed another long-serving company executive Felix Jiang as senior vice president for the ANZ area. He’ll be based in Sydney for .
Mr Ciao said ‘I am very proud of the achievements we have achieved as a team and business in Australia and New Zealand, I am so grateful for all the opportunities that has been my life since our humble roots.
A family of approximately 300,000 strong and growing every day is the ANZ MG owner family.’ Our local dealer partners and customers have trusted the company’s mc motor brand so passionately in their hearts.

I am looking forward to supporting the new senior leadership as SAIC Motor embarks on a new age in Australia and New Zealand.’ Our local team has been very committed to our growth goals, said Saidir. Paraphrast.
One of the two SAIC Motor brands in Australia is MG, one of which is LDV. But this commercial vehicle brand is marketed separately by independent importer Ateco Automotive.
In the last 10 years, SAIC Motor has a strong foothold in the ANZ market and we look forward to fuelling our next phase of growth with new products that resonate deeply with local needs,” said MG ANGZ CEO Qing Zhang.
Would like to say a sincere thanks to Peter, who has been my leader for the last eight years. According to MG Motor Australia, “at the right time” it will announce an updated plan for its ‘next phase of growth’.
Last year, it launched a raft of new model lines which included its first ute, the U9; its first large SUV, the QS; a new mid-size car, the MG 7; and new electric vehicles (EVs) in the S5 EV small SUV, and the IM5 and IM6 premium sedan and SUV.
Despite this glut of new models, however, MG sales fell 18.4 per cent year over year.
Slumping sales for its core models was to blame – its top-seller, the ZS small SUV, fell 11.6 per cent; the recently redesigned entry-level MG 3 hatch fell 33.5 per cent; the similarly new HS mid-size SUV fell 7.7 per cent; and the MG 4 electric hatch plunged by 56.9 per cent.

MG’s most affordable products have found themselves under attack from other Chinese brands, including a surging Chery.
Although MG has grown massively since SAIC Motor announced its new launch and it is taking over distribution here in 2016 (as per the recent hiccups) of .
Despite its position as one of the world’s top-10 brands since 2021, last year it was in 10th overall place after three consecutive years of finishing seventh.
Late in 2024, Mr Ciao outlined ambitious goals for the brand.

He said ‘I want to be in the top five of this market, 2025,2026,227.’ The next phase is my three-year plan for me?
“2028, 2029, 2030 is our next phase and we’re aiming for top three.”
But even MG had previously announced plans for further items to appear in local showrooms such as the new mid-size electric SUV (the GM S6 EV) and another small electric hatch. It’s not clear if this shake-up in leadership will affect these plans.
