2026 Bentley Flying Spur review: Quick drive

Bentley is a brand known for producing truly special cars, and this – the Flying Spur sedan – is the most exclusive of them all.

Starting from just under $500,000, the Flying Spur is the most expensive Bentley you can buy right now, at least in base specification. It’s also the rarest on Australian roads – just 10 were sold last year to the end of November, in which time the Continental coupe/convertible and Bentayga SUV chalked up 58 sales each.

However, for 2026, Bentley has tinkered with the Flying Spur lineup in an attempt to . The V6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions we welcomed just a few years ago are no longer available for purchase, and the iconic W12 is long gone.

Rather, the Flying Spur range has been exclusively available with V8 PHEV drivetrains. But even if you ask me, Bentley says the great V8 will beroaring into the next 10 years (albeit with electric assistance – a decent compromise) while it is tightening emissions laws.

But I’m not, but the market for this type of car is in. Does this mix of tech and old-school charm make buyers through the door?

How much does the Bentley Flying Spur cost?

The entry point in the Flying Spur range is now referred to as the ‘standard’ V8 Hybrid tested here, with Bentley axing the V6 PHEV for the 2026 model year.

Despite the sticker price, you can’t take up this when we test-driver was decked out with $45,160 worth of options including 22-inch 10-spoke wheels ($6950), ‘wellness seating’ ($6235), contrast stitching and seat piping ($5215) and a panoramic sunroof ($4865).

Indeed, after taking into account both options and on-road costs, the final drive-away price is closer to $650,000 – yikes!

What is the Bentley Flying Spur like on the inside?

Elegant design and carefully selected materials elevate the Flying Spur over your ‘average’ luxury sedan.

A large range of standard interior finishes, including a number of leather options, as well to wood and carbon fibre inlay options are available from the core variant.

But buyers can take things one step further and tailor the interior to the best detail with Bentley’s Mulliner department. But nothing is a limit customers even can supply their own materials at the factory in Crewe, England.

If you don’t choose to custom trim your Flying Spur in plastic from a wheelie bin, you can’re really going wrong. It’s a little tighter inside than the BentaygA, even when given with – sunroof (duo-tone Linen and Imperial Blue Nappa leather) our test car is presented with duo tone lines. I think such light colours fit this model best as it feels like an underwear version of its own brand new bike which has been shown in front of that tester but also feel slightly more snug to be used for testing purposes.

The leather itself is matted, and has a prominent appearance on the dash and door cards. Another a gloss black panel, which also wraps around the front of the cabin’s front, is another part that makes it feel like cohesion in the design of space.

It’s an image of Bentley that has a reputation for attention to detail, and can be seen in how the most mundane aspects of the Flying Spur are still somehow special, or at least interesting.

Typically the air vent controls are completed in knurled metal rather than plastic, and soft suede to be found overhead. pride of place in the middle of the centre stack, a Bentley-branded analogue clock is designed to be.

Whether or not, the big-ticket items are as high priced as their expensive counterparts (if not more so). Both front seats are comfortable and ridiculously adjustable, with all the movement you expect as well as separate electric adjustment for headrest, thigh support (and even the side bolsters) and other different electric adjustments. But if that wasn’t enough, the steering column is also power-adjustable so ergonomics never matter.

The features of a front pews also benefit from heating and ventilation functions that automatically respond to changes in the occupant body temperature – seriously upmarket stuff. Bentley also has stepped out of its efforts to automate the massage functions with what it calls the ‘postural control system’. Of course, it’s also possible to manually tinker with these toys.

The steering wheel is also heated and wrapped in the same sumptuous Nappa leather that can be found throughout the cabin, so every interaction with this car is memorable.

Well, yes, every interaction with the beautiful materials perhaps, but not so much the technology suite. While the full Volkswagen Group parts catalogue is available, Bentley has never been a segment leader in terms of screen screens for cars; this remains true to Flying Spur.

And because, while the twin 12. My experience with the Bentayga EWB displays is that they’re still uninspiring by modern standards, and 3-inch displays are better than those I have seen in the show. props for a Bentley-led approach to the integration of centre screen and increasing visual resolution, but there is still no functionality that can be achieved.

Wouldn’t it be surprising that buyers here don’t care about the latest tech, at the end of the day wireless smartphone mirroring is more than enough for many people to get a new one. There’s also something to be said about the eloquent combination of traditional-style gauges and modern driver aid within the Flying Spur’s digital instrument display, by the same token.

A second supposition of Bentley’s hesitance to chase automotive technology trends is that the cabin of the Flying Spur has real, physical buttons and switches so it’t very user-friendly.

It’s a little less than storage space but there is some storage room for , though it does not have much storage. But the centre armrest is just that – an arm rest – so there’s no hidden compartment inside. The leather-lined door bins, or you won’t fit a drink bottle in the leather lined door boxes.

The centre cupholders are preferred to keep drinks in the bottle and other odds or ends stored in a deep glovebox, while drinks are best kept in drink bottles instead. You can find an area under the centre stack for your phone that doubles as a wireless charging pad; there are two USB-C outlets and ’12V sockets’.

Moving back, the second row is just as decadent as the first.

That’s a little bit of.

There’s a lot of head- and legroom for two full-sized adults to spread out comfortably, and if you have fewer sunroofs than that perception of space in the back is improved only by.

Meanwhile, rear passengers can completely block out the outside world by covering the glass panel and enabling the electric window blinds on each side.

This is a touchscreen attached to back of the centre console, which provides access to all these above adjustments and also allows for easy access on the seat and climate controls. Even back-to-back electric seat adjustment, that’s the point of that (and all the goodies up front – heating, ventilation and massage). The skull-hugging cushions are also used for both head restraints, as do the pillows on their heads.

In this way, sitting in the second row of the Flying Spur is like flying first class (not meal service and inflight entertainment) as it does. In a statement that has been made, individual passenger entertainment screens are also available as an affordable option.

As standard you get a pair of USB-C outlets, an armrest in the centre (four different air vents) and fold-down vanity mirrors as standard. Such storage options include a shallow armrest bin, skinny door bins and map pockets.

But you’ll want to use those holes, because the boot is strangely small for such a big car. Bentley quotes 346 litres of cargo capacity for the Flying Spur – a figure that’s out-of-city hatchback, let alone other luxury sedans.

Part of this is the transition to plug-in hybrid power, where the boot floor sits very high and charging cables fill some of the rest of room.

Smaller items are still relatively easy, as the Flying Spur is equipped with a power tailgate (the wide and deep opening aperture) and the open aperture of the Fing spur is also fitted with an opening. Surely Bentley buyers deserve a bigger boot, even though s are still right.

There’s no spare tyre either, just a repair kit. A temporary spare can be added at an additional cost.

What’s under the bonnet?

A V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain is available in two states of tune, dubbed ‘High Performance’ and ‘Ultra performance–’ on the 2026 Flying Spur.

If we are base model, our tester is the weakest of the bunch 500kW & 930Nm. It is down 75kW, 70Nm on that ultra performance powertrain used in the speed and Mulliner.

Consequently, the standard Flying Spur is slightly slower than its stablemates. 0-100km/h sprint takes the claimed 3 min. 0 deficit, 9 seconds. Paraphrasing 4 seconds.

However, High Performance variants boast slightly improved electric driving range.

Compared to the 6 left with power and torque, both the Ultra Performance plug-in hybrids and High Performance Plug-In hybrid have more power/torquer. This was 467kW/900Nm, a 4-67KW/90Nmm turbo W12 with the power of 0-litre turbo.

How does the Bentley Flying Spur drive?

Many automakers stand to lose from engine downsizing and electrification, but Bentley isn’t one of them.

Because, while the old W12 will forever be loved by car enthusiasts, this new 4 won’t have a meaningless existence. A perfect fit for the personality of the Flying Spur is 0-litre twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain.

For example, it can be as silent and smooth as 80km of electric travel – more than enough for an enjoyable jaunt around town – but also unleashes 500kW of hybrid V8 fury when needed… talk about Jekyll and Hyde.

I say that, but even when driven in anger the Flying Spur remains a refined beast. It’s never shouty, at least not to the extent of a Mercedes-AMG V8 or Porsche Panamera Turbo S. If it’s theatre you’re after, the Flying Spur Speed and Mulliner gain a noisier sports exhaust system.

Nevertheless, the noise doesn’t distract you from the fact that the base Flying Spur absolutely hauls under full throttle (at least in a straight line) at all. Then it pins you back in the seat and doesn’t let up, thanks to an endless wave of torque and rapid shifts from the dual-clutch transmission.

Then we didn’t get to see how the Flying Spur handled in such a short drive, but it’s not really if you have gotten.

weighing in at more than 2 s. A 7 tonnes, luxury Bentley is best for cross-country cruising rather than corner carving. But all-wheel steering and a trick all wheel drive system help hide the Flying Spur’s large size somewhat, giving it some manoeuvrability.

They can’t quite hide its size, though, which can pose issues during city driving. At 5.3 metres long and nearly two metres wide, the Flying Spur is too big for many parking spaces and lacks the visibility of taller luxury cars. Thank goodness for those high-resolution cameras, then. And, to be fair, the Flying Spur is still smaller than the Mercedes-Maybach S680 and Rolls-Royce Ghost – two of its main rivals.

More importantly, the Flying Spur is a very well-built bike with its weight and huge 22-inch alloys. This is a good standard air suspension for smoothing out uneven surfaces (although the cabin has nastier potholes) but it does have an excellent job of smoother, even though there are no more pot holes in the standard Air suspension.

In that sense, the Flying Spur isn’t quite as cloud-like as the high-riding Bentayga SUV. It’s a lot sexier, though.

The Flying Spur is also highly refined from a sound insulation perspective, beyond ride comfort. A car running in EV mode, however the cabin is subject to minimal outside noise that penetrates with little zgomot. Because of the quietness of their powertrains, EVs are more likely to hear road and wind noise than other cars; however this Bentley bucks that trend is not so common.

There are three drive modes to choose from Comfort, Normal or ‘B’ and Sport – I found the default setting was best for plushness and performance. funny,’ .

Am I wrong, $500,000-plus is a lot of money but I don’t know what good cars to spend it on.

While most exotic models sell on the basis of one or two desirable features, the Bentley Flying Spur has all – stunning looks, superb straight-line performance, couch-like comfort, upmarket materials and sedan practicality. The plug-in hybrid power is icing on the cake with its efficiency and versatility.

The Flying Spur is a number of alternatives to alternatives, but each has disadvantages with the other. For example, the Porsche Panamera isn’t quite as compliant, nor so nice on rear passengers.

A more luxurious version of The Bentley, the Rolls-Royce Ghost is a much more expensive than that in Then there’s an even more lavish one called theRolls–Royce ghost but costs higher to match. And it’s also more likely to attract a negative attention from someone who has already been paraphrased.

As such, the Flying Spur is regarded as the perfect all-rounder for the few fortunate enough to be shopping in this world.
