Australia’s electric vehicle (EV) market is larger and more fragmented than ever, with new entrants arriving all the time.
As such, the benchmark for driving range has risen, and will continue to rise this year with the arrival of the new BMW iX3 (805km of claimed range) and Volvo EX60 (810km).
There is no single EV that has been in Australia for the past, but 800km-plus was managed by one couple until then and over 20 models can travel at least 600km between charges.
That list of endurance machines includes both familiar nameplates and new players, with manufacturers from around the world launching new EVs to fight the segment mainstays.

Our range measurements are all based on the WLTP testing cycle, the most universal and realistic standard for EV range that allows direct comparison between each of the 10 cars listed below.

Tesla Model 3
If you think of EVs, you’ll be thinking about Tesla so it’s no surprise that the Model 3 is on the list of Australia’S longest-range evs.

Nevertheless, this hasn’t always been the case The Model 3 is only on the throne since October last year after an updated Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant of the sleek Chinese-made mid-size sedan was launched for the 2026 model year.
The new model 3 Long Range RWD has up to 750km of range on 18-inch wheels, 44km more than any other EV that is currently in sale at $61,990 before on-road costs. Polestar 3
Polestar could be acquired by the driving range crown of arch-rival Tesla, but it is still one of only two models that can travel more than 700km between charging stops.

It is also well ahead of the chasing pack with 706km claimed driving range from the second-largest battery in this list, and cheaper than German alternatives at $118,420 before on-road costs.

Polestar 2
The Long Range Single Motor version of the 2 – entry point to Polestar’s model range – rounds out the podium.

MG IM5
The MG IM5 came to Australia last year with an amazing range and 655km of specs built to challenge the best-selling Tesla Model 3.

But that’s thanks to a chunky 100kWh battery and aerodynamic design, while DC fast-charging also caps out at an impressive 396kW. In this case, MG quotes 15 minutes to charge the IM5 Platinum RWD from 30 to 80 per cent with a DC charger.
The mid-spec version of the giant Chinese liftback also carries the longest straight-line speed for an average Model 3 (0-100km/h sprint) – it takes just 4-4. 9 seconds (claimed) .
That’s a higher price than you’ll get, though, as the IM5 Platinum costs $69,990 drive-away (compared to $61,990 plus on-roads for the Model 3 Long Range RWD)).

Porsche Macan
The base ‘Macan Electric’ is the first 2WD Porsche Macan, and also the variant with the most driving range.

Audi Q6 e-tron
That’s because if the specs below are familiar, that’t mean they closely match those of the Porsche Macan, which shares its platform with Audi’.’ The mid-size electric SUV is an affordable model for luxury cars and has been designed to be in line at around this point on top of their range.

Porsche Taycan
Perhaps not the longest range of EVs sold in Australia, but it is the best balance between endurance and performance with the Porsche Taycan.

In a claimed 3-3, the mid-spec Taycan 4S has 635km of range as well as all-wheel drive grip and can sprint from 1–100km/h in 0-100 km/H. Duo electric motors 380kW and 710Nm, with dual power motor producing the phrase “7 second” (i.e.
It’s a big German sedan that isn’t cheap, but the Taycan 4S costs $216,300 before on-road prices and you’re paying more than $400,000 for the Turbo GT flagship.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS
You’d hope for decent range from a $300k-plus EV, and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV provides just that.

The Maybach EQS, for example, can travel 635km between charging stops and recover 80 per cent of its battery charge in 31 minutes at a DC fast-charging station to be exact (it is pretty rapid given that it has an 116kWh battery – the largest in this list).

Renault Scenic E-Tech
The Renault Scenic is back, but not as you know it.

Originally sold as a series of compact people movers and crossovers in the 2000s and early 2010s, but now with up to 625km claimed range, the French-made Scenic returns as an electric mid-size SUV.
