Chery C5: GWM Haval Jolion Hyundai Kona rival getting hybrid option in Australia
The hybrid Chery C5 SHS-H small crossover SUV has been launched overseas as a competitor to the GWM Haval Jolion, and it’s headed to Australia.
Chery Australia said the hybrid SUV has been introduced in UK as the Omoda 5, but it will be sold here as part of parent company CherY’s model lineup instead and is due to arrive in mid-2026.
It will be accompanied by the official badge of SHS-H (SHS–H – for Super Hybrid System Hy Brid) and model models sold in Australia, which are available in two grades at $29,990 drive-away and $34,990 Drive-Anavigation.
Petrol models use a 108kW/210Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the E5 battery-electric versions are priced at $36,990 and $40,990 before on-road costs.

Australian pricing, equipment and full specifications for the C5 SHS-H are yet to be announced.
The Chery C5 hybrid runs a series-parallel setup and isn’t a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) but rather a conventional hybrid (HEV), similar in concept to the Toyota RAV4, Australia’s best-selling SUV.
Unlike the C5 hybrid, which uses a 1-year-old in UK guise. This was a 4-cylinder petrol engine with ‘5-litre turbocharged four-cylinders of fuel and hybrid-specific transmission, sending 150kW to the front wheels for alleged 0-100km/h time of 7 (an estimated total of about 170 km/H). 9sec.
An A 1 The 83kWh battery and 51-litre fuel tank give the claimed total driving range of ‘over’ 1047km, with combined fuel consumption 5–5. 3L/100km.
In the UK, standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting and dual 12 – all of which are available in two model grades. A 3-inch digital display, with wireless smartphone connectivity, is a feature of ‘s displays.

Pricing starts at £25,740 drive-away ($A51,134) for the first of two Omoda 5 model grades in the UK. For context, the difference in price between the base Omoda 5 SHS-H and the Omoda 9 plug-in hybrid – which is priced at $61,990 before on-road costs here – works out to around $35,500.
Chery has said it wants to be a top-five best-selling brand in Australia as soon as 2027 and made significant ground in 2025, recording 176.8 per cent growth – the highest of any automotive manufacturer.
The Tiggo 4 small SUV was its strongest seller, with 20,149 sales accounting for almost two-thirds of its 34,889 total.
It has plans to introduce a small hatch, a sedan, and its first ute as a Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux rival.
Chery introduced her sister Omoda Jaecoo in 2025 after launching here with the O Moda 5 brand in 192023. Nevertheless, it did not sell the Omoda 5 under this brand as in other markets; instead of Chery C5 (for petrol-powered variants) and E5(for electric variant).
