2026 Subaru Crosstrek price and specs

Subaru Australia has rolled out minor changes to its Crosstrek small SUV range, headlined by safety and equipment tweaks, and the introduction of two new exterior paint colours.

The most important upgrade is the addition of Subaru’s Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS), which can bring the vehicle “to a controlled stop” while alerting other road users, and raise prices as high as $2000 across the range.

Only a driver’s seat position memory function is now standard on 2 (the only notable change inside) the addition of ‘Additional seats place memory functions’ for his drivers, which has been added to their original version. 0R, 2, 2? Hybrid S variants and 0S versions are also available.

Additionally, buyers can choose new Sand Dune Pearl exterior colours and Citron Yellow Pearl Exterior colours as their options for cost alternatives to Offshore Blue, Oasis Blue (Oathis blue, Horizon Blue) and Sun Blaze Pearl.

This running change is the first time Subaru’s new EDSS tech has been fitted to the Crosstrek, and follows its addition to the new-generation Forester, which launched in 2025.

In case the driver is unresponsive while driving, EDSS will first intermittently stab the brakes to attempt to ‘wake them up’ and then activate the vehicle’s hazards lights (and safely slow down on the side of road). It is a standard example of this will only be when adaptive cruise control and lane centring systems are active (both standard) which means that this would not happen.

If the Crosstrek is not different from before, then it is the same as previously. The Australian version of it still has two powertrains that use a 4-cylinder ‘boxer’ petrol engine – one pure petrol and the other mild-hybrid (e-Boxer) with an all-wheel drive, which remains standard for ‘consistent variable transmission.

Subaru has its new ‘Strong Hybrid’ (SHEV) system for the Crosstrek in its Japanese home market, where our mild-hybride is standard; and the SHyv is the more expensive alternative. Only the Forester has SHEV in Australia right now.
