2026 Nissan Navara ST review

Nissan has launched its all-new Navara ute range, and yes, it’s a redo of the Mitsubishi Triton.

But this Japanese ute has been overhauled with an Australia-ready flavour, thanks to a partnership between Nissan and Premcar, the experts behind the hardcore Navara and Patrol Warrior models.
And for the new ute range, there are some variations of the theme; in addition to the SL and ST variants being more tradie-targeted suspension tune (the latter is much less expensive) grades have different dampers for a more defined drive.
A good buy is the ST? Well, if you want an off-road capable and occupation-applicable ute for a reasonable price… some of the specs are slightly odd.
How much does the Nissan Navara cost?
The Navara is more expensive than the Triton on which it’s based, but far from the most expensive dual-cab diesel ute range in the market.

| Model | Price before on-road costs |
| — | — |
| 2026 Nissan Navara SL dual-cab pickup 4×4 auto | $53,348 |
| 2026 Nissan Navara ST dual-cab pickup 4×4 auto | $56,765 |
| 2026 Nissan Navara ST-X dual-cab pickup 4×4 auto | $63,177 |
| 2026 Nissan Navara Pro-4X dual-cab pickup 4×4 auto | $68,418 |
Check out the standard equipment lists below to see why I think ST is a pretty convincing case over the SL, even if you want some extra niceties for not that much extra money.

What is the Nissan Navara like on the inside?
I like that Nissan has been pretty democratic with some of the specs on offer in the Navara range.

For example, buying a more basic Isuzu D-Max or Mazda BT-50 means you get a smaller screen and mainly analogue instrumentation. But in this ute, you’re getting a 7.0-inch instrument cluster screen with dials alongside it, as well as a range-wide standard 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, not to mention satellite navigation and DAB+ digital radio. Plus the screen plays host to the display for the range-wide standard surround-view camera. Which is excellent for this class.

Look, it’s not as convincing an interior experience as a Kia Tasman – which has arguably the best cabin in this segment for the money – but it’s still a wholesome and likeable place to spend some time.
It’s going to be a price for manually adjustable seats with cloth trim, and thankfully you get carpet (if you want it) in the ST too.
Countless How many times I went up to the ute with the key in my pocket and then got it unlocked without pushing that fob button? After that I put the key back in my pocket, forgetting it needs to be shoved into the barrel and turned like an old car. If I was the next model up the range, there would be a push-button start and no keyless entry to make it easy for me to think that’s the right one.

But those seats are sexy and good-fitting for drivers of various statures, electric lumbar support; they’re nicely supported by the driver’s seat (which is needed to cope with the firm ride of this truck… more on that below) as well as being supportive.
While the plastic steering wheel isn’t too nice, there are some logical controls on the tiller and the stalks feel different to those in the Triton, too.
Media experience is fine, but the Nissan does have some pretty slow-loading screens when you kick the car into life. I’m a wireless smartphone tech that I used all week and the screen controls were easy to learn, but for good part, it was just shit.
I love having dials on either side of the display for volume and tuning, a button array under which is easy to grip with.

Speaking of, the toggle switches for the climate system are great for that, and workers with gloves on will still be able to adjust the temperature, fan speed and more without having to worry about the touchscreen – something you can’t avoid in a Volkswagen Amarok or BYD Shark.
It’s single-zone climate control in this grade and the one below, and you don’t get seat heating, either.
A few other things tell it you’re not in a cheap pickup exposed screwheads and hard plastics, for example.
Cupholders between the seats, a covered centre console bin, loose-item cubby in front of the shifter (no wireless phone charger), and large open cube by in back of passenger (it’s one half of double glovebox if you spend more) storage options.

I am a fan (LOL) of the air recirculation system that is standard in all Navara models, as it helps spread the atmosphere around to those in the second row. This is more convincing than some of the lame knee-height vents in other utes, and it’s easier to explain how they can be controlled by their own ventilation with the overhead venting (and fan controller) that are found in the back (that are large enough to reach).
It’s a good back-seat space, but not an exceptional one — it is fine. I have a little legroom to spare for my own driving position at 6’0”/182cm, and headroom was good enough. The transmission tunnel is a bit of space, and three big blokes across may be squishy; the transmission could have been more than half-space.
Even in this grade you get a flip-down armrest with cupholders, and the bottle holders on all four doors are 7-Eleven stock-up friendly. A few pockets on the seatbacks for more stowage and some of the seats are also reserved for . The ST also has a 12-volt port and two USB outlets, which would be welcome additions over the entry-level SL for buyers with regular rear-seat riders.
A central top-tether point (It isn’t as disturbing as anchoring your child seat to the rear bulkhead of the ute) and ISOFIX points in Navara are found in the window seats, but also has ISOFX pointeds that can be used for other segments.

The ST does not have a tub liner in the cargo zone, but there are four tie-down points and’sport bar’ (and an assisted tailgate is standard on all versions). The tailgate has a lock, but it’s not connected to the central locking.
A spare wheel under the floor is also in a tub, and there’s even – with an rear bumper step – but it doesn’t have rear quarter steps that we’re seeing more often these days.
Despite the wide range of its dimensions, the tub isn’t too wide between wheel-arches to fit a standard Aussie pallet (1165x1165mm) and has remained flat.
| Dimensions | Nissan Navara |
| — | — |
| Length | 5320mm |
| Width (excl. mirrors) | 1865mm (1930mm in Pro-4X) |
| Height | 1795mm (1815mm in Pro-4X) |
| Wheelbase | 3130mm |
| Tub length | 1555mm |
| Tub width | 1545mm |
| Tub width between wheel arches | 1135mm |
| Tub depth | 525mm |
| Ground clearance | 228mm |
| Approach angle | 30.4 degrees |
| Departure angle | 22.8 degrees |
| Breakover angle | 23.4 degrees |

What’s under the bonnet?
As in all versions of Navara range, I like it that the engine and transmission are identical to those used by Triton so if you buy a cheaper model (or less) example you still get the grunt maximum – and as such your power-to weight ratio is higher than at lower grades.

| Specifications | Nissan Navara ST |
| — | — |
| Engine | 2.4L bi-turbo 4cyl diesel |
| Power | 150kW |
| Torque | 470Nm |
| Transmission | 6-speed auto |
| Drive type | Selectable four-wheel drive |
| Fuel economy (claimed) | 7.7L/100km |
| Fuel economy (as tested) | 8.1L/100km |
| CO2 emissions (claimed) | 203g/km |
| Fuel capacity | 75L |
| AdBlue capacity | 17L |
| Kerb weight | 2143kg |
| Payload | 1047kg |
| Braked towing capacity | 3500kg |
| Gross vehicle mass (GVM) | 3190kg |
| Gross combination mass (GCM) | 6250kg |
- Official combined fuel consumption figure is 7. A week of tests, including a mix of urban, highway, commuting and local journeys (no load, no off-roading or towing) was my test score for 8 on the test. 1L/100km, 1L?

How does the Nissan Navara drive?
I had recently returned the range-topping (for now) Pro-4X, so I was able to test this ST model with some good context. But and that version was a little nicer than this one, and it was just as good.

It’s because the less-spec versions of s are rated to handle an increased load so they have a stronger, firmer suspension than the more expensive grades.
We are talking about it as a good fit-for use stuff and while I wasn’t playing landscaper or plumber this week for my testing, I could tell the ute that when unloaded is much more rigid than the upper-spec dual-cab I’d handed back earlier.
How awkward is it when you hit a big bump or speedhump with too much momentum that you surely will feel, but in terms of rebound and body control the whole thing seems pretty well-sorted? The suspension system, which Premcar has implemented, settles quickly after sudden anomalies in the surface; even this ST holds a line well in corners.
It is a predictable and easy to control steering, with nice weighting and response across’very wide bandwidth of speeds and scenarios’. Toyo Open Country A/T rubber in 2WD can be loose under low speed situations, just know that the toyon Open country A. T rubber is not going bad at all.

That is the powertrain, too and that’s up for it as well as a . It is pretty brisk when it responds to the Tasman, D-Max and BT-50 likes of grunt as well as being outnumbered by the Navara (and Triton) and feels very calm in its response when on the move.
There was some bit of lag, and the transmission – mostly well-mannered in its responses doesn’t mind letting the engine work for a little (I can say that it has enough torque) but I’m okay with this. It is a engine that does and this engine.
The biggest problem I have had with this ute is the noise in the cabin. A Pro-4X seems to have a lower sound deadening than the ST (which is always heard as you can hear the engine running away), and when fans kick in at urban speeds it may be rather raucous.
Afterward, it has the driver tracking camera system (which will allow for an in-f#&ked driver monitoring camera). Several times, in fact, I said to it that “distraction” warnings were wrong and at one stage when I yawned (to unblock my ears – sinus problems) it continued to chime at me at least 12 more times.

The driver distraction and fatigue warning system is the problem with calibration and interpretation of what should be – it also has a display that appears on the driver info screen alongside other important information and can, well, distract and tired you in its own right.
Or, if you can get along with someone like that’s easy to do so than . And it’s not the one that is better for a driver monitoring person than this, but some other utes do so.

How much does the Nissan Navara cost to run?
Nissan models are covered by a standard five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

| Servicing and Warranty | Nissan Navara |
| — | — |
| Warranty | 10 years, 300,000km (conditional) |
| Roadside assistance | 10 years, 300,000km (conditional) |
| Service intervals | 12 months, 15,000km |
| Capped-price servicing | 5 years |
| Average annual service cost | $499 |
| Total capped-price service cost | $2495 |
But if you drive on Japanese brand’s network of locations, your car could be eligible for an extended 10-year, 300,000km warranty. If you’re a business buyer or tradie who only turns over their truck once in the blue moon, that’s very interesting.
Servicing intervals are the expected 12 months/15,000km, and the first five services are capped at $499 per visit.
If you service with Nissan, you can also access a potential 10-year/300,000km roadside assistance program, too.

childcareman.xyz’s Take on the Nissan Navara ST
There are plenty of options in the dual-cab ute segment, but if you’re after a work-willing or play-ready 4×4 diesel, this could be shrewd.

Even if it’s a little rough around the edges, it drives well and there are some hit-and-miss moments when it comes to tech too.
And even if you can service it at a Nissan dealer, the long-term aftersales benefits are very pragmatic and that’s pretty efficient dual-cab diesel too.
