Chery Tiggo V teased as flagship ‘transformable’ SUV

Chery is revealing a new flagship SUV, the Tiggo V, which promises an extremely flexible interior at this week’s Beijing motor show.

The fresh teaser you see here appears to line up with the Tiggo V concept quietly revealed in Kuwait back in January, a large, boxy SUV with styling similar to last year’s 6=1 ‘Transformable Multi-SUV’ concept.

The Tiggo V, Chery says, “has been a “core global model” with ’transformable vehicle concept’ of ‘flexible seating and configurable interior space’ that allows it to be transitioned from an urban commuter into the more capable weekend adventure vehicle or – in fact, – ‘functional load carrier’.

The Chinese brand also promises the Tiggo V will be a “powertrainer, an open cabin, advanced in-car technology and “capability across dozens of road conditions” as well as being fully equipped with power.

Until now, however, there is no proof of specifications including dimensions or what powertrain it will use. It will be revealed in Beijing at the show, which begins this Friday (April 24) to reveal full details after its unveiling.

The 6=1 concept, a 4-row SUV with three rows is not yet clear. A length of 9 metres – 100mm more than the Tiggo 9 ‘with a removable rear hardtop’.

According to Chery, the 6=1 concept has six different interior and exterior layouts a 600 litre cargo bed with four tie-down points and adjustable dividers.

There’s also a ‘Camper Mode’ that supports accessories such as awnings and pop-up roof tents.

Unlike the Deepal E07, which can be transformed from an SUV into a quasi-ute with the push of a button, the 6=1 has a manually removable hardtop that weighs 30kg and takes 25 minutes to remove without power tools.

The Tiggo V shown in Kuwait has a similarly boxy body but appears to lack this unusual rear canopy.

But Chery may be able to show the Beijing series that has revealed a new, production-ready large SUV with’smartly configurable cabin’ but without removing an automatic removable hardtop.
