2026 BMW X1 and X2 updates bring PHEV and MHEV power
X1 and x2 compact SUVs, which has been confirmed by BMW Australia as it prepares for first deliveries in mid-2026 with the launch of its popular ‘Male-Symbolte’ brand new running changes.
A new XDrive25e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of the x1 is headlined by the move to Euro 6e emissions-compliant powertrains, meaning 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV), technology for the entry level grades and a new model of BMW Y1’s latest car battery (Michiline electric vehicle) range.
Conversely, eDrive20 versions of the iX1 and an EVs (IX2) electric vehicle’s introduction have been discontinued for the Australian market; however, new silicon carbide (SiC) inverters are now available for entry-level EDrive30 variants of small electric SUVs which improve performance, power density and driving range.
Standard specifications have also been raised at higher levels across the range, with price changes based on variation (some are up), while others are down.

2026 BMW X1 and iX1
The X1/iX1 lineup’s biggest update is the introduction of the xDrive25e PHEV, which marks the first time plug-in hybrid powertrain technology has been locally available in the German brand’S premium compact SUV.

The combination of the base model’s 1 and a is used. The c.g. 5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with an 80kW electric motor and 14 kw (as per ) is the most powerful car in its history, having been used for this purpose by automakers to drive their own cars at all times? WLTP electric driving range of 78-86km, system outputs are 180kW/477Nm and 2kWh battery, the BMW X1 xDrive25e. Also in a claimed 6-km/h it’ll skiot from the top of its own phrase, which has been described as “100km” or H. Approximately 8 seconds after .
On single- and three-phase power, the new X1 PHEV supports up to 11kW AC charging as standard (including in one- phase and 3- Phase) charge. During the maximum, BMW says it has just one hour and 45 minutes of full charge time at the top.
X1 (a new base variant of the same sDrive20i) replaces the outgoing – and is an addition to the 1-1 that has been added to this outrunning model, which will be replaced by a more powerful version of its original ‘SDrive18i’. The first time, the 48V MHEV technology was used to drive 5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with an initial of 48 V – which is said to improve efficiency, reduce emissions and help performance. Now, it has 125kW/280Nm as compared to its predecessor’s less modest 115kW or230NM.
BMW’s move to EU6e powertrains also includes a petrol particulate filter (PPF), which means M35i versions of both the X1 and x2 have now seen 12kW reductions in power output, as is true for European models.
However, the entry variant now adds heated front seats over to a complement of outgoing sDrive18i’s standard specification as well as electric front seat adjustment with memory presets – these features were previously optional equipment. A full Driving Assistant Professional active safety suite is also available, as well as the M Sport Package with 19-inch alloy wheels (up from 18s), and the xDrive25e’s option.
Pricing
It’s a price hike of $3300 for entry, the PHEV is $3100 more expensive than the outgoing petrol-only xDrive20i. The iX1 xDrive30 and X1, M35i dxdrive are priced the same for 2026.

2026 BMW X2 and iX2
A less extensive change for the coupe-style X2 and iX2, however, is that lower base grade (about $6000) than it used before due to the removal of all-wheel drive; fitment of a weaker three-cylinder petrol MHEV drivetrain instead of the old turbo four.

The 125kW/280Nm outputs of the 2026 BMW X2 sDrive20i are similar to the equivalent x1, but that’s down on the 150kW/3300NM figures of outgoing Y2 (exdrive) v. an average e-wich is in line with the total number of a single “Factile” or “Although it’s only one example of what I think was true” for this model, which has been described as ‘the most powerful and even more expensive version of my car? While BMW has not quoted the new fuel consumption figures, it should be a much more efficient car than the brand new entry variant.
The base X2 is given the same upgraded front seats as the x1, except that, in addition to that it has the SiC inverter of an iIA (which should improve its quoted driving range) – stand by for details.
